I don’t have a piece of land to practice Horticulture!!

Many of us say these words or hear from the people around you, Don’t make these words stop you practicing the hobby you prefer or cause you to think to take off starting practice your hobby, Don’t full yourself with depression, the chance is in front of you, and all of us know that if you want to practice gardening hobby, you need garden or small corner at your home, you can plant in pots in your balcony at home.

A B C Gardening :

After you settle down on the land spot where you will work in it, you don’t need many of costs to start practicing gardening, only some of main tools which don’t cost you much money:

(good soil – seeds – trees seedlings – organic fertilizer) and some simple agricultural equipment, such as (pick – shovel – water hose …etc.) and some of patience.

Here are the steps that will make a piece of neglected land you have a view you enjoy every morning..

Gardening Steps :

1- What I will plant ?

Do I make it vegetables garden or flowers garden ?

If you choose planting flowers, Do I plant the annuals flowers, which I should replant it every year which give us the colorful and various colors in Summer season? or Do I prefer to plant Perennial plants, which live for many years? You can mix between different types of plants and trees, Finally It’s your own garden and the choice is for you, what do you prefer.

2- The soil :

The good soil is the main factors which we shouldn’t neglect in the main building to get plants growing well.

Bring the soil you will use, avoid the heavy mud and sandy soil what’s not adding the sufficient organic material, If you have inactive soil and rough for years, It’s better to began to clean it well from harmful herbs and impurities which inside it, then you add the organic manure and mix it well with the soil.

3- Period of time :

You should give the soil period of time even the manure begins to resolve in the soil through leaving it from week to ten days, we never forget that the sun rays is very important to produce healthy vegetables with high quality. but there are many of plants bear the shadow, this time will be suitable for asking and searching for the crops which fits and in line with the special climatic conditions in your country and your area in particular, and also the type of soil which you use.

4- The seeds and seedlings :

Now, bring the seeds and seedlings which you intend to plant after you have bought from planting shop, you should count the distance which split the seedlings from each other, so the trees and shrubs compete to get the sufficient sun light in the garden, avoiding planting walnut tree with other crops because it products poisoned material which harm the plants.

5- Supply of the water :

The resources and supply of the water should be near to your private garden, A need for water to the plant doesn’t end, Starting from planting seeds to be grown up to become productive trees.

6- The plan :

Draw your plan to the garden, showing every place to the plant, also showing the distance and the far between the rows.

7- Choose your plants :

Some people examine catalogs for months, the others overlook the garden center and buy what admire them. Either method works if you choose plants adapted to your climate, your soil, and the amount of sunlight in your garden. You can even surf the Internet for plants to buy.

Here are some easy growing plants for beginner :

Perennials :

Russian sage, lamb’s-ears, black-eyed Susana, purple cone-flowers, phlox, pansies, and day lilies. vegetables as lettuce, peppers, tomatoes, and cucumber.

Annual :

cosmos, marigolds, impatiens, geraniums, Calendula, sunflowers, and zinnias.

8- Set them in the ground :

Some plants, such as pansies and kale, afford cold, so you can plant them in autumn or late winter. Tomatoes and most annual flowers, on the other hand, are oversensitive about cold, so don’t plant them until the risk of frost has passed in your area. Middle of spring and Middle of autumn are good times to plant perennial flowers.

Examine the county cooperative extension office or local garden center for a list of recommended planting dates.Some plants, as lettuce and sunflowers are easy to grow from seed.

You can strew them directly in the garden. Be sure to read the seed packet for guidance about when to plant, how deep to plant, and how far apart to plant the seeds.

If you’re an audacious beginner, you can get a head start on the growing season by sowing seeds indoors before the last frost date.

You can purchase containers or flats designed especially for seedlings, as well as seed-starting soil mixes (available at garden centers).

Follow seed-packet instructions, and place the containers on a sunny window sill or under artificial lights if you don’t have window space.

Be sure to keep the seeds and seedlings sodden but not wet (or they may rot).

9- Water :

Seedlings shouldn’t be dry out, so water daily while they are young. Decreasing gradually as the plants get larger. New transplants also need frequent watering every other day or so until their roots become established.

After that, how many times you need to water according to your soil, how moist your climate is, and how much it rains. Plants are begging for water when they wilt slightly in the heat of the day.

Water slowly and deeply, so the water soaks in instead of running off into the street. To minimize evaporation, water in the early morning.

10- Mulch :

To help keeping weeds out and water in, cover the soil with a couple of inches of mulch. All sorts of mulch are available, from pine needles to cocoa hulls to bark chips.

For a vegetable garden or bed of annuals, choose a mulch that decomposes in a few months. For perennials, use a longer-lasting mulch, such as bark chips.

11- Keep it up :

Your garden is on its way. Keep watering when needed, and pull weeds before they get big. Fertilize with a dry fertilizer about halfway through the season. If you use a liquid fertilizer, fertilize every month . And remember to stop and smell whatever you grow.

Exploit your time with productive hobby, entertain with the fruits and vegetable taste which you haven’t tasted before, feed your neighbors to courage them to practice the horticulture, entertain with good health like the previous people who gain lots of benefits by practicing gardening.
